Fleeing stolen vehicle hits gas line, critically injures one

Damage is estimated at $100,00 after a driver in a stolen truck hit another vehicle and a gas line, leaving one person with critical injuries.

Police received a report about a truck being stolen from a business on Hyde Park Road near North Routledge Park around 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

The truck was later found on Canterbury Road. However, while fleeing from the area, it struck another vehicle and a gas line. One person was seriously hurt in the ordeal and had to be taken to hospital for treatment, police said. As of Monday afternoon, they remained listed in critical condition.

Officers again located the vehicle not far from the collision.

A 41-year-old London man was arrested. He has since been charged with two counts of impaired driving and one count each of theft of vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of a crash and dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in London court on Monday.
