Police seize gun, drugs after downtown disturbance

A 19-year-old man is facing nearly a dozen weapons and drug-related charges after a weekend disturbance at a downtown London business.

London police were called to the business, which was not named by police, in the area of Carling and Richmond streets around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday. Officers were told there had been a man with what was believed to be a handgun involved in the incident.

A suspect matching a description of the man was found a short distance away.

A search turned up a loaded gun and a quantity of drugs, police said.

A London man has been charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and one count each of possession of a loaded regulated firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, careless storage of a prohibited firearm, handling a firearm in a careless manner, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

He is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Monday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
