Welfare check leads to heavy police presence in Byron

Dozens of London police officers, some in tactical gear, swarmed a residential complex in Byron Friday morning.

Police were called to the River Woods townhouse complex on Commissioners Road West, near Boler Road just before 8 a.m. to check on the welfare of a woman. The call led police to believe there were weapons at the residence. As a result officers with the uniformed, emergency response and canine units all responded.

The woman was located and is safe, Constable Sandasha Bough said around 10 a.m.

"We are remaining on scene to continue with this active investigation and we continue to ask members of the public to please avoid the area," Bough added.

Bough did not confirm whether any weapons were seized at the site, however, she did say there were no reported injuries.

If any charges are laid, London police will provide an update.
