83-year-old Lucan man overwhelmed by $100K lotto win

A resident of Lucan had quite the reaction after finding out he had won $100,000 playing ENCORE.

David Newman purchased a few tickets for the May 6 LOTTO 6/49 draw after a family dinner. The lucky winner says he plays the lottery often, and always says yes to ENCORE.

On the winning ticket, Newman matched the last six of seven numbers in the right order.

"I had a dream this would happen," Newman confessed while picking up his winnings from the OLG Prize Centre. "I’ve been playing the same numbers for 30 years."

The 83-year-old retiree was overcome with emotion when he checked his ticket.

"The cashier was jumping up and down, but I lost my breath and just about had a heart attack,” he explained. “I went into shock and forgot my own name!”

Now $100,000 richer, Newman is thinking about upgrading his cars and doing some renovations at home.

"It’s going to help a lot," he added. "I’m excited but I still don’t believe it."

Newman bought the winning ticket at MacEwen on Richmond Street in Lucan.
