Firefighters respond twice in one morning to apartment in west London

The London Fire Department was called two times within a matter of hours to the same apartment unit on Sunday morning.

Crews initially responded to 122 Baseline Road West around 6 a.m. for a mattress fire in a second floor residence. The fire was extinguished and the building ventilated shortly afterwards.

A second blaze broke out in the same unit around 10:15 a.m., according to the fire department. They also said investigators confirmed the fires were not related, and neither deemed as suspicious.

Residents of the west London apartment complex, managed by London and Middlesex Community Housing, were evacuated from the building on Sunday. The London Fire Department says Emergency Operations Centre staff are working on a reception centre for those impacted by the incident.

No injuries were reported as a result of either fire.

Damages are estimated between $200,000 and $300,000.

"[The] cause of the [second] fire is deemed 'not' suspicious but our investigation is still ongoing," a spokesperson from the fire department confirmed with London News Today.
