Vehicle catches ablaze during early morning crash near St. Thomas

A Londoner has been charged after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into a hydro pole east of St. Thomas early Sunday morning.

According to Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at around 5:10 a.m. on June 4, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Quaker Road near John Wise Line.

Upon arrival, police observed a passenger vehicle that had collided with a hydro pole. The vehicle caught on fire shortly after the crash, police said.

A pair of occupants inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result. However, both got out before it burst into flames.

OPP said the responding officer administered a roadside-approved screening device (ASD) test, which registered an alert.

A 26-year-old London resident has since been charged with one count of careless driving. The accused was also issued a three-day licence suspension.
