St. Thomas teen accused of firing gun

A St. Thomas teen has been charged with careless use of a firearm after a weapons investigation that began Saturday morning.

Police responded to a residence on the south end of the city around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday with reports that a gun had been discharged. A spokesperson from the St. Thomas Police Service confirmed that the home owners were the ones to make the call.

Later Saturday morning, police advised that a firearm had been seized by officers and there was no threat to public safety.

Police also said there were no injuries to report.

The investigation was ongoing until Wednesday, when police shared that a 16-year-old was arrested in connection to the incident. The youth was processed at police headquarters and later released on an undertaking.

In accordance with the Youth Justice Act, police could only confirm a few details about the incident. However, they did say Wednesday that the investigation is over and no other charges will be laid.
