Baseball bat, knife used in random attack downtown

A man had to be hospitalized after he was randomly attacked by two weapon-wielding people in downtown London.

The man was exiting an apartment building on Richmond Street near York Street around 3 a.m. on Wednesday when another man began hitting him with a baseball bat. During the attack, a woman walked out of the apartment building and cut the man being beaten with a knife.

A person who witnessed the assault called 911.

London police arrived and arrested a man and woman without incident.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the victim and the suspects were not known to each other and the incident was caught on video surveillance.

A 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both from London, have been charged with assault with a weapon. The pair are expected to appear in court next month.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
