"Out of control" man assaults citizens, officers, doctor in St. Thomas

A 40-year-old London man is facing a number of charges after a violent altercation Monday evening at a bank in St. Thomas.

Police said multiple calls came in around 5:30 p.m. regarding an "out of control male" at Talbot Street bank.

Officers arrived to find two citizens had been assaulted at the scene and were in need of medical assistance. Police say the suspect was unprovoked.

When police attempted to arrest the man, it is alleged that he assaulted two officers. Police said a taser was used to immobilize the suspect in order to arrest him.

As a result of the incident, the accused was charged with mischief, causing a disturbance, and several assault charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

Police say the suspect was taken to hospital for assessment. During this time, the man reportedly assaulted a doctor unprovoked, landing him an additional assault charge.

Once medically cleared, the suspect was apprehended and remanded into custody.
