Southwest London neighbourhood without power after crash

A crash that took out a hydro pole in southwest London caused major headaches for area residents and drivers.

A Hydro One pickup truck collided with the pole on Commissioners Road at Huntingdon Drive, snapping it in half, just before 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Injuries were minor, London police said.

The collision left over 7,000 homes and businesses in the Highland neighbourhood without power. As of 8 a.m., the majority of those affected had power restored. As of 12:15 p.m., power was still out for a few hundred customers in the Commissioners-Huntingdon area.

Drivers who come across traffic signals that have gone dark should treat them as four-way stops.

The westbound lanes of Commissioners between the east and west legs of Kingsford Crescent were closed for several hours while crews repaired the downed utility pole. The lanes were reopened shortly after 12:30 p.m.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, police said.
