London police cruiser hit by alleged impaired driver

A London man is facing impaired driving charges after crashing into a police cruiser.

London police were notified about a man who was alleged to be drunk in the area of Florence Street and Rectory Street around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived they were told the man had taken off from the area in a vehicle.

A description of both the vehicle and driver was provided to police. Using that information, officers located the suspect vehicle a short distance away. However, when police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver drove into a marked police cruiser before coming to a halt.

No one was hurt and the driver was arrested without further incident, police said.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and impaired exceeding blood alcohol concentration. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 3.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
