Lucan-area storage barns destroyed in late-night fire

Two large barns south of Lucan were reduced to rubble in a late night fire Tuesday.

Middlesex OPP and firefighters were called to the blaze on Richmond Street between Saintsbury Line and Roman Line around 11:30 p.m. When they arrived the barns were fully engulfed in flames.

No injuries were reported.

The two barns had been used for storage prior to the fire, police said.

A damage estimate is not yet known.

A section of Richmond Street was closed for a couple of hours as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. During that time, a vehicle reportedly drove around the closure sign.

Officers stopped the vehicle and determined the driver was impaired. A 29-year-old from Sarnia has been charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80mg in 100mL of blood, driving with an open container of liquor, and driving on a closed highway.
