Transport rolls trying to avoid crash on Highway 401

A tractor-trailer rollover temporarily closed a section of Highway 401 southwest of London early Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes just east of Union Road in Southwold Township after the big rig crashed just before 1 a.m.

Elgin OPP determined the transport was trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle when it made a sharp maneuver that caused it to roll. It came to rest across the two eastbound lanes of the highway.

The driver and lone occupant suffered minor injuries, police said.

The eastbound lanes between Union Road and Colonel Talbot Road were closed while crews worked to clear the debris and remove the truck. The highway was reopened around 4 a.m.

At this point, no charges have been laid.

Police did use the collision as a reminder to motorists that driving requires a driver's "full undivided attention, consideration of all vehicles on the roadway and to always be aware of changing weather, traffic, and road conditions."
