Homes temporarily evacuated after backhoe severs gas line

A gas leak in northwest London temporarily forced the evacuation of multiple homes.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Aldersbrook and Attawandaron roads, southeast of the intersection of Wonderland Road and Fanshawe Park Road, after a backhoe severed a natural gas line shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters notified residents about the situation. Those displaced were directed to a parking lot at the northwest corner of Aldersbrook and Wonderland where a London Transit bus is stationed to provide shelter.

Enbridge Gas crews were called and shutoff gas to the area while they work to repair the line.

No injuries were reported.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes just after 10 a.m.
