Firefighters save 100-foot storage shed contents despite hindrance from storm

A downed tree may have slowed London firefighters from getting to a large storage shed fire, but it didn't stop them from saving the many items inside.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Colonel Talbot Road north of Decker Drive around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived smoke was billowing from the top of the structure.

"This was a difficult fire in that an entire attic space in a 100-foot structure was on fire," said District London Fire Chief Brent Shea. "Our access to the property was hindered by a downed tree as a result of the storm. But crews were able to get in and make a quick stop of the fire and prevent any loss or damage of the contents inside the structure. It was a very aggressive offensive strategy by the crews on scene and they did a great job."

As the fire was located on a rural property south of Lambeth there were no fire hydrants nearby. Tanker trucks from Delaware and Talbotville were called in to help haul water to the scene.

By 8:30 p.m. the fire was extinguished and firefighters were left with just a few hot spots to deal with.

No injuries were reported.

A damage estimate and cause of the fire have not been released, however, Shea confirmed nothing suspicious in nature is suspected.
