High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

A cyclist suffered minor injuries in a hit-and-run in St. Thomas Saturday.Police were called to the collision on Wellington Street near First Avenue early in the morning. When officers arrived they learned a cyclist was hit from behind by a grey/silver sedan.The vehicle did not remain at the scene, police said.The cyclist was taken to hospital for further assessment.The investigation is ongoing, police said.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-631-1224 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
