London man accused of attempted assault with bicycle chain

London police have pressed charges against a man who allegedly caused a disturbance near the downtown area Sunday evening.

According to police, officers responded to an altercation between two men at around 6:20 p.m. near the area of Beaufort and Irwin streets, just north of Oxford Street West and west of Wharncliffe Road North.

Police learned the suspect had attempted to assault another man with a bike chain and a pole. The accused had left the scene before police arrived.

A description of the suspect was provided to officers and he was located a short time later.

Police allege the man resisted officers’ attempts to arrest him, however, he was eventually taken into custody.

A 32-year-old London man has since been charged with assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
