$200K lost in online scam

The St. Thomas police are investigating after a resident was taken advantage of by online fraudsters.

According to police, it all started when the victim responded to a pop-up ad on social media.

"The scam involved an employment opportunity if the applicant submitted $100,000," police said. "The incident evolved and the applicant was scammed out of another $100,000."

Few other details have been released.

The St. Thomas police criminal investigations branch has taken over the investigation.
