London police arrest man following foot chase

A Dorchester man is facing charges after assaulting an officer and fleeing from police in east London.

At approximately 9 a.m. Thursday, a London police officer saw a man wanted by another police service in a vehicle parked in the area of Highbury and Langmuir avenues.

When the officer told the suspect he was under arrest, he allegedly clenched his fists, pushed the officer’s hands away and ran away.

"Additional officers were called to assist, and police pursued the suspect on foot through backyards and over fences," police said in a statement.

The suspect was eventually arrested on Brydges Street near Highbury Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

A 42-year-old man faces charges including assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

The Dorchester man is scheduled to appear in London court on September 27.
