Crews battle east London fire

London firefighters responded to a fire at a building in the city’s east end late Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to a fire at 790 Dundas Street, just east of Adelaide Street North, shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters were met with a large plume of heavy smoke.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area while crews worked on putting the blaze out. A primary search of the structure revealed no one was inside the building, and no injuries have been reported, fire officials said.

Firefighters remained on the scene after 4 p.m., to put out hotspots and ventilate the building. Dundas Street remains blocked between Lyle and Rectory streets.

No details about a cause are available. A fire investigator has been called in to probe the circumstances surrounding the fire. Damage is estimated at around $250,000.
