A London man has now been charged in a crash that saw a pickup truck slam into a hydro pole along a main artery in Old South earlier this week.
The single-vehicle crash happened in the northbound lanes of Wharncliffe Road South near Stanley Street at around 7:40 a.m. Monday, snarling traffic in both directions for several hours.
When officers arrived on scene, witnesses told police the driver had taken off, and a description of the suspect was provided.
Officers located a suspect a short distance away. He was arrested without further incident. No injuries were reported.
An investigation revealed the pickup truck had been reported stolen a month prior to the crash.
On Tuesday, police announced a 26-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving, impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to stop at the scene of a crash, and driving without a licence.
The accused is scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday.
The investigation is ongoing.
