Fentanyl seized at London RIDE checkpoint

Provincial police operating a roadside sobriety checkpoint in London ended up stopping more than impaired drivers.

Middlesex OPP officers stopped a vehicle in the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint setup on the Highway 401 off ramp at Wellington Road around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday. Police found $7,800 worth of fentanyl and $7,000 cash inside.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

A 27-year-old Etobicoke resident has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on November 10.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
