Pair charged with assaulting London police officer

A man and woman are facing charges after a London police officer was randomly assaulted downtown.

Police were in the area of Wellington and King streets where a large gathering was taking place Wednesday night, near the site where the Liberal party's national caucus retreat was being held. While speaking with a participant of the gathering the officer was assaulted by two people.

The pair were arrested and no injuries were reported, police said.

A 27-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man have since been charged with assaulting a peace officer and causing a disturbance. Both have been released from police custody with separate court dates next month.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
