Video surveillance helps police ID suspect in two armed robberies

Charges have been laid in a pair of armed robberies earlier this month that London police allege were carried out by the same man.

The first robbery happened at a business on Highbury Avenue North near Fanshawe Park Road around 5:30 a.m. on September 8. A man walked in, pulled a knife, and demanded the employee give him cash from the register.

The man then took off running before police arrived.

Around 6:40 a.m. the following day, a man walked into a business in the area of Kipps Lane and Barker Street and demanded money from the employee. A knife was also flashed during this robbery, police said.

The man left on foot before police arrived.

In both cases, descriptions were provided by witnesses but officers were unable to locate a suspect.

Investigators reviewing video surveillance footage from the two businesses determined the same man was responsible for both robberies and were able to identify a suspect.

A 36-year-old London man has been charged with two counts each of armed robbery and disguise with intent. He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
