Transport truck fire slows 401 traffic in London for two hours

The driver of a transport truck that went up in flames on Highway 401 in London Thursday afternoon managed to escape the blaze unharmed.

Firefighters and police were called to the eastbound off-ramp to Highbury Avenue just before 2:30 p.m. where a big rig was burning.

Investigators determined the driver pulled the smoking transport off the highway and got out of the cab just moments before it went up in flames.

The sight of the burning transport and the effort to extinguish it brought traffic on the busy highway to a crawl for approximately two hours, OPP said.

The vehicle has since been removed from the off-ramp.

No injuries were reported.
