Arrest warrant issued for jewellery store smash-and-grab suspect

London police have identified a 23-year-old man as a suspect in a brazen smash-and-grab robbery at a south-end jewellery store.

A man, wearing sunglasses, work gloves, and a baseball cap used a sledgehammer to break into display cases and steal jewellery from the Peoples Jewellers inside White Oaks Mall around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Video of the incident posted to social media by a bystander, shows the man running from the store before security or police could arrive.

No one was hurt during the short ordeal.

On Friday, police announced an arrest warrant had been issued for Treat Thorne of London, in relation to the robbery. The 23-year-old man is charged by way of warrant with armed robbery.

Thorne is described as White, approximately 5’6”, 161 lbs, with a slim build, brown hair, brown facial hair, and blue eyes. Police advise anyone who sees Thorne not to approach him but to call 9-1-1 immediately.
