Man wanted in jewellery store smash-and-grab robbery arrested

The 23-year-old man wanted in a smash-and-grab jewellery store robbery in south London has been arrested.

London police announced on Wednesday night officers had found Trent Thorne and taken him into custody.

"We would like to thank the public for sharing the information," police said in a statement.

An arrest warrant had been issued last Friday for Thorne for the armed robbery of the Peoples Jewellers in White Oaks Mall.

The October 25 robbery saw a man, wearing sunglasses, work gloves, and a baseball cap, smash a display case with a sledgehammer, snatch jewellery, and then take off running.

No one was hurt.

The brazen afternoon robbery was captured on video by a bystander, who shared the footage on TikTok. It was viewed over a million times.

Thorne is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges against him on Thursday.
