Man injured allegedly trying to escape police, SIU investigating

A male suspect was injured while allegedly attempting to escape from police custody.

London police said that just after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday a suspect, in custody for an unrelated investigation, was taken to hospital for for an alleged pre-existing medical condition.

While at the hospital, the man attempted to run from officers, police said. In the attempt by police to re-apprehend the suspect, he suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following the incident.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.

The suspect remains in police custody.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
