Workplace fall victim to be laid to rest

A young man who died in a workplace accident in Zorra Township will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

An obituary for Roger Siple, 20, of Norwich says his funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon. While police have not identified him as the victim of the incident, his obituary says he died "as the result of an accident" on December 7, the same day police say a 20-year-old man from Norwich died in a fall at a business on the 15th Line of Zorra Township.

"Roger grew up in Newark, where his love for animals, the outdoors and building blossomed, the obituary said. "He was a cherished son to his parents, Leon and Jennifer Siple, and best friend to his sister, Zoë Siple. His family was the centre of his life, and he was a source of immense pride for them. His roots were deep, and while his life was short, he leaves a huge void that will be filled as much as possible by honoring his legacy and wisdom."

The obituary added that he was a keen outdoorsman who also enjoyed motorsports and listening to podcasts to "expand his knowledge and perspective."

"Although quiet, Roger was an unintentional leader and started many fads during his time at school, including long hair, Pit Viper sunglasses and NELK Boys gear. He had an impeccable work ethic, and was respected by all who knew him for his authenticity, integrity and intelligence, and his absence will be deeply felt in the community," it said.

The Ministry of Labour continues to investigate the incident.

Visitation is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12 at Brock and Visser Funeral Home on Vansittart Avenue in Woodstock. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Donations to Oxford County Animal Rescue or Operation Sharing would be appreciated.
