Man charged with assault after St. Thomas resident pepper sprayed

A 52-year-old St. Thomas man is facing charges after allegedly forcing his way inside an apartment and pepper spraying the tenant.

St. Thomas police were called to the apartment in the south end of the city Sunday afternoon. A group of men had shown up to the building with at least one forcing his way inside one of the units, police said.

The tenant of the unit was pepper sprayed during the incident and required medical assistance.

A 52-year-old man was arrested a short time later. He is charged with one count each of being unlawfully in a dwelling and assault.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
