Freezing rain could make for icy Saturday morning

It could be an icy start to the weekend for drivers in the London-area.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for London, eastern Middlesex County, and Oxford County warning patchy freezing rain is expected to fall overnight into Saturday morning.

"Freezing rain amounts are expected to be minor, but may still lead to icy and slippery conditions, particularly on untreated surfaces," the national weather agency said in the statement.

The threat of icy conditions comes as the temperature overnight is expected to hover around the freezing mark. Periods of snow or rain is also possible before Saturday morning.

Drivers are advised to slow down and leave extra time to get to their destination when roads are icy and slick.

Saturday's forecast for the region calls for rain to end before noon with a high of 4 C, which is several degrees above normal for this time of year.
