Trucker killed after transports collide on Hwy. 401 west of Woodstock

A crash between two tractor-trailers on Highway 401 west of Woodstock has left one person dead.

The transports collided in the westbound lanes just past Foldens Line (Oxford Road 6) around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The crash caused one of the trucks to burst into flames.

One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital as a precaution, Oxford OPP said.

All westbound lanes between Foldens Line and Plank Line were closed to allow the OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team to investigate and crews to clear debris. The lanes remained closed throughout the morning commute on Thursday causing major delays. A detour was in place, but was incredibly slow going due to the volume of vehicles.

The westbound lanes were reopened at 9 a.m.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
