SIU seeking witnesses after London police cruiser hits cyclist

A month after a cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a London police cruiser, Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is asking for witnesses to come forward.

The SIU began its investigation after the incident occured on December 7, 2023. According to the SIU, an officer was driving south on William Street around 4:30 p.m. that day when, while making a turn to go east on York Street, the officer hit a cyclist.

The 54-year-old cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The cyclist was later released from hospital.

"The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529," a statement from the SIU said. Tips can also be sent in online at https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police officers that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
