Cab driver punched several times in St. Thomas

An assault charge has been laid after a cab driver was attacked over the weekend in St. Thomas.

St. Thomas police were called just before midnight Saturday by an unnamed taxi company. Officers were told one of the company's drivers had been punched several times by an individual in the north-end of the city. The attacker reportedly took off after the incident.

Police attended the scene and arrested a suspect a short distance away.

A 30-year-old St. Thomas resident has been charged with one count of assault. The accused has been released from police custody with a future court date.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
