St. Thomas police officer assaulted breaking up family dispute

A St. Thomas police officer was hurt trying to make an arrest in a family dispute that had turned physical.

Police were called to a disturbance at the home in the south-end of the city on Monday. Officers arrived to find a family disagreement that had escalated into a physical confrontation.

The decision was made to arrest all of the people who were involved and while taking one of the individuals into custody an officer was assaulted.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, police said in a statement released on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old St. Thomas resident has been charged with assault, resisting a peace officer, and assaulting a peace officer. That individual was scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Tuesday morning.

A 25-year-old Woodbridge resident has been charged with assault and a 56-year-old St. Thomas resident has been charged with assault with a weapon. Both have been released from custody with a future court date, police said.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
