Man charged in human trafficking probe

An investigation by London police into child luring has led to charges against a man from Scarborough.

Police say that in March of 2022, a teenage girl was approached by a man who asked that she add him as a contact on a social media platform. She did so, and the two began to communicate.

Just over a year later, they arranged to meet at a downtown London apartment. According to police, the man paid the girl for sexual services.

A 29-year-old Scarborough man, who is already in custody on another matter, is now charged with obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18, luring a person under 18 by means of telecommunication, and gaining material benefit from sexual services.

The man is to appear in court in early February.
