Elderly pedestrian killed in collision with dump truck

A collision in Long Point between a dump truck and a pedestrian has left an 86-year-old Oxford County resident dead.

Emergency crews were called to the crash on Erie Boulevard in the hamlet on the north shore of Lake Erie around 1:15 p.m on Wednesday. Investigators determined the senior had been walking along the roadway when they were hit. That individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

The driver of the dump truck, who was not hurt, remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, Norfolk OPP said.

The collision kept Erie between Austin Parkway and Beach Avenue closed for several hours on Wednesday. It has since reopened.

The OPP traffic incident management and enforcement team is assisting with the investigation and is asking anyone with information or dash-cam footage to call the Norfolk detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at -800-222-8477.
