Surveillance video used to ID suspect in St. Thomas break-in

A shattered front door and an observant passerby alerted St. Thomas police to a break-in at a downtown business.

The person was passing by the unnamed business early Sunday morning when they noticed the glass front door had been smashed and called police.

Officers arrived at the scene and a search of the building turned up no intruders. However, a review of surveillance footage showed a man break the door and then enter and exit the business several times taking merchandise with him.

Using the video footage, police were able to identify a suspect.

A 23-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested shortly after and has been charged with break and enter to commit theft. He has since been released from police custody with a future court date.

The majority of the stolen items have been returned to the business owner, police said.
