OPP probing hate crime in Ingersoll

Provincial police in Oxford County are looking for suspects after what they are describing as a "hate/bias motivated incident" in Ingersoll.

Officers with the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police were called to a business on Thames Street South on Thursday, February 8. According to police, an obscenity was written on a window at the business sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police have not said what the obscenity was, but are investigating the matter as a hate/bias motivated crime. The OPP says its Hate Crime Extremism Unit is taking part in the investigation.

"The OPP takes hate/bias motivated investigations seriously," police said in a media release issued Thursday. "The OPP will continue to work with community partners to provide supports to those who are victimized by hate/bias motivated incidents."
