Police dog helps nab hit-and-run suspect

A hit-and-run that left the suspect vehicle with only three tires has resulted in charges against a 27-year-old London man.

A man was driving his vehicle in the area of Clarke Road and Parkhurst Avenue around 11:20 p.m. on Friday when another vehicle veered into his lane and hit his car. The force of the collision caused the man's vehicle to go into the ditch. The other vehicle involved took off from the scene at what witnesses described as a high rate of speed.

London police were called and given a description of the suspect vehicle. It was spotted about ten minutes later in the north end of the city being driven without a passenger-side tire. The driver got out of the vehicle on Canvass Way and ran away, police said.

The police canine unit was brought in to help search for the suspect, who was seen hopping a fence nearby.

After a brief struggle with officers, a man was arrested around midnight.

A 27-year-old London man is charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop at the scene of a crash, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in London court on March 26.
