Fire crews face fifth-floor blaze

A balcony fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damages on Sunday afternoon.

According to fire officials, black smoke and flames were visible from the fifth-floor balcony of an apartment on Sugarcreek Trail.

Firefighters used the building's internal standpipe system to help knock down the flames before they could spread from the balcony.

"Fire crews visually inspected all floors and roof for smoke or fire migration," a social media post from the fire department said, adding that it didn't extend into the roof or any adjacent apartments.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
