Suspected impaired driver stopped, gun seized

London police ended up finding a gun and over-capacity magazine after stopping a suspected impaired driver in the east-end of the city.

Officers spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and repeatedly crossing over the centre line in the area of Gore Road and Montebello Drive around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver arrested.

A search turned up a 9mm rifle, an over-capacity tactical magazine, 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a red dot gun sight.

A 44-year-old Bayfield man is charged with eight offences including impaired driving, driving with an open container of liquor, possession of a restricted firearm without a licence, occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possession of a loaded/unloaded regulated firearm, and failure to comply with demand by peace officer.

The accused was scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on Monday.
