Break-in suspect resists arrest, tries to grab cop's gun: Aylmer police

A 35-year-old man is accused of trying to grab an Aylmer police officer's gun during an arrest Sunday night.

Police were called to a break and enter in progress just after 10 p.m. A man was reportedly trying to break into a home he was barred from entering under a court order.

"As officers attempted to place the man under arrest, he fought police, actively resisted arrest and tried to remove an officer's pistol from the holster," police said in a statement.

The man was eventually taken into custody.

A Springfield man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, resisting arrest, breaking and entering, and disarming a peace officer. He was held overnight and was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
