School buses cancelled in Oxford due to fog

Thick fog in Oxford County has put the brakes on school buses.

Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services announced just after 6 a.m. on Monday all school purpose vehicles in the county have been cancelled for the morning. However, they will be back on the roads for the afternoon drive home.

Buses in London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, and the Red Zone will be running on schedule. All schools within the London District Catholic and Thames Valley District school boards remain open.

The morning bus cancellation comes as Environment Canada has Oxford County under a fog advisory. The national weather agency advises dense fog is reducing visibility on the roads making travel hazardous. Drivers are advised to ensure their vehicle's lighting system is switched on, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.

The fog is expected to lift later in the morning as sunshine breaks through and the temperature climbs to a record breaking 18 C.
