London Knights advance to OHL second round after sweep of Firebirds

The London Knights are advancing to the second round of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) playoffs.

The Knights completed a sweep of the Flint Firebirds with a 3-2 Game 4 win at the Dort Financial Center in Michigan on Thursday night. That means London wins the Western conference quarterfinal best-of-seven series 4-0.

Knights Landon Sim, Sam O’Reilly, and Denver Barkey all scored goals, while Michael Simpson made 34 saves in Thursday's game. Isaiah George had two assists for London. Easton Cowan also had an assist, giving him points in 40 consecutive games dating back to November 25.

For Flint, Simon Slavicek and Matthew Wang scored and goaltender Nathan Day stopped 28 shots. This is the second year the Firebirds have seen their season come to an end in the first round of the playoffs.

Round two of the OHL playoffs will see the Knights play the winner of the Kitchener Rangers-Erie Otters series. Tickets for Round 2 are currently on sale at Budweiser Gardens, although the date and time of those games has yet to be determined.
