Single-vehicle crash knocks out power for parts of St. Thomas

A few hundred St. Thomas residents woke up in the dark Friday morning.

A single-vehicle collision took out a hydro pole in the area of Wellington and Moore streets overnight.

No injuries were reported, although the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Entegrus, the company that operates and maintains electricity distribution systems in St. Thomas, reported nearly 400 customers were affected by the power outage.

Police had Wellington between Princess Avenue and Ross Street blocked while hydro crews work to repair the damage.

Power was restored and the road reopened around 10 a.m.
