Woman sexually assaulted by man on bicycle

A 20-year-old Londoner is facing charges after a woman was sexually assaulted by a man on a bicycle downtown.

The woman was walking in the area of Wellington and York streets around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday when she was approached by a man on a bike. The man allegedly asked the woman if she knew someone who could provide sexual services for him. When the woman indicated she did not, the man touched her inappropriately before riding away, London police said in a statement issued Monday.

The woman called 911 and provided police with a description of the man.

Officers arrested a suspect a short distance away.

Sabwon Shinwari, 20, of London, has been charged with one count of sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 30.
