Careless driving charge laid in multi-vehicle 401 crash

A multi-vehicle crash that blocked two lanes of Highway 401 east of London and sent two people to hospital has led to a careless driving charge being laid.

Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of the highway at Westchester Bourne in Thames Centre just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Middlesex OPP determined two passenger vehicles and a dump truck had collided.

The drivers of the passenger vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The dump truck driver was not hurt.

The crash kept two lanes of the highway closed for just over an hour, causing lengthy traffic delays.

A 35-year-old from Salford is charged with careless driving, police said on Wednesday.
