SIU called in after London man injured during arrest

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now probing the arrest of a London man on the weekend.

According to London police, officers were called to the east end of the city around 6 p.m. Sunday to investigate a neighbour dispute.

While there, officers arrested a man for uttering threats. Before taking him into custody, the man ran away. Around 6:30 p.m., he was arrested.

"After being arrested, he complained of injury and was transported to hospital by officers, where he was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries," police said in a media release issued Monday.

A 30-year-old London man is charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death, one count of uttering threats to cause property damage, and one count of uttering threats to animals.

Due to the man's injuries, the Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate.
