Knights advance to Memorial Cup final

The London Knights are one win away from hoisting the Memorial Cup.

The team beat the Saginaw Spirit 4-2 at the Dow Event Center on Wednesday night to earn a berth to the championship game at the 2024 Memorial Cup tournament. A crowd of 5,306 people watched as Maple Leafs first-rounder Easton Cowan scored twice late in the third to cement the victory. He also had an assist.

The game was tied 2-2 with less than 90 seconds to go when Sam O’Reilly passed the puck to Cowan who quickly scored. He then added a second goal into the empty net with 22 seconds left in regulation.

Knights forwards Denver Barkey and Kasper Halttunen scored the other two goals of the game.

Alex Christopoulos and Joey Willis scored for Saginaw and goaltender Andrew Oke made 32 saves.

With the win, the Knights will play in their fourth Memorial Cup final on Sunday. The team will face the winner of Friday night's Saginaw Spirit-Moose Jaw Warriors semi-final.

The last time London won the tournament was in 2016.
